How Do Herbs Enrich Your Life?
June is just about here. I'm a bit behind on the garden at the new house, but my deck planters are now ready to plant, and my herb seedlings ordered from my favorite herb grower (Warner River) to pick up at NH Herb and Garden Day this Saturday. It's been a joy to discover the many
woodland wild and ornamental flowers popping up on the property, but I am beyond excited to bring my favorite herbs to the new back yard.
As I sketch out who will go where, I'm thinking about the many ways that many herbs enrich each day of my life. One of the most profound impacts for me comes from the herbs that improve my relaxation
and promote a healthier stress response. My own personal journey into herbalism began with anxiety and insomnia, and these herbal allies remain some of my favorites in my personal life and in the clinic. Perhaps it's a tea sipped throughout tea or with dinner, or a tincture just before bedtime or added to seltzer for a fun mocktail. But, beyond the medicinal properties of, say, lemon balm, tulsi, skullcap, or motherwort, is the joyful experience of simply infusing healing herbs
into my daily life in food, tea, medicine, and other drinks.
Last week, two awesome free podcast/video webinars just dropped that I'll share with you in today's newsletter that explore some of my favorite relaxing herbs.
What I
love about herbs is that they meet us where we're at.
Of course, it's always important to look to the root cause of our imbalances and take a whole body and life approach. But herbs give us a nudge of support during these transitions and are often safe enough to enjoy ongoing or as needed. My favorite herbs are those tonic herbs, like lemon balm. These gentle yet profound tonics heal and support overall wellbeing in many
ways. You might be surprised by my chat with Rosalee on how much more there is to lemon balm than meets the eye!
The other big news for today is that it's my LAST CALL to register for the Home Herbalist Series. Classes begin June 11 for our 6-9 pm Eastern Time Tuesday night calsses! We only have a few remedy kits left (they're being assembled right now!).
This course is available simultaneously in a few different formats, and there is still space for in-person (my NH classroom), live stream online (from anywhere worldwide), and on-demand students.
If you're new or new-ish to herbalism or have been dabbling for years and yearn to drive deeper to
really get to know the plants and how to work with them with confidence, this series is for you!
