March in New England can be unpredictable. Three feet of snow or garden parties amid blooming crocus, hyacinth, and daffodils. We've only just begun, but it seems like we're headed towards the latter.
Â
It's not a particularly pretty month. The ground seems caught unawares by its recent
visibility, in drab sleep-crumpled frumpy pjs, roots showing, squinting at the sun. Oh gosh - are you here to see me already? Soggy, muddy, brown, dotted with smushed perennials who managed to survive the snowpack (which, this year, wasn't much).Â
Â
Yet, it when you step out on a warm-ish day, the drab landscape is a-ok. You can't help but feel excitement with the shift in the air, the
coming of the green season. The sun feels warm, the once sooooo dry air is moistening up, and waterways are gushing. This is a big time for SHIFTING energy.
Â
Herbalist and acupuncturist Jiling Lin teaches us that, in the Chinese 5 Elements System, the energetics of the season of spring are associated with riotous emotions - shouting, joy, but also sometimes frustration, angst, and anger,
especially in these early stages. Think of that creek once dormant under ice now suddenly full and ready to GO, plummeting vigorously to get past the rocks and residual ice in its way. So, if you're feeling a little overwhelmed and angst-y this season, the Earth is with you. Thankfully, this is a transient transition phase. Soon, the green will rise up, trees will bloom, and we'll settle into a different way of being.
